For the first time in his career, Gio Ruggiero is an ARCA Menards Series East winner after taking the season-opening checkered flag at Five Flags Speedway. In just his third ARCA platform race, Ruggiero grabbed the lead from William Sawalich after the halfway point of the Pensacola 150 and never looked back, as the duo found themselves the only drivers on the lead lap at race’s end.

Bubba Pollard, Connor Zilisch, and Hunter Wright completed the top five, with Pollard down one lap and Zilisch and Wright each down two. Zilisch’s busy day started at Circuit of the Americas, where he qualified on the pole for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and finished fourth, and continued at Five Flags, where he overcame contact with Zachary Tinkle to remain in the top five.

Regional ARCA action was initially set to continue this weekend at Irwindale Speedway, but the planned second round of the ARCA West season has been preemptively postponed to July 6 due to impending weather. It’ll now be part of a unique doubleheader that sees two races in three days, while the series will now return to action at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on April 20.
