It’s as busy of a weekend as it gets for the ARCA Menards Series this weekend, with both the national tour and the West division due to compete on Saturday. Talladega Superspeedway will play host to the General Tire 200 for the main championship in the afternoon, while the action continues later in the day at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway with the MMI Oil Workers 150 presented by the West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Talladega has hosted 61 previous ARCA events since debuting on the schedule in 1969 with a race won by Jim Vandiver. Only one driver who’s won in those past 61 races is on the entry list, though: Gus Dean, who took the victory at Daytona in February under contentious circumstances within the Venturini Motorsports squad. Jake Finch, who led most of the Daytona race, will lead the remaining four Venturini cars, while points leader and 2023 Daytona winner Greg Van Alst, Tanner Gray, and Andy Jankowiak are among the other veterans in the field. With defending winner Jesse Love not competing, Talladega’s streak without back-to-back winners, which dates back to the late Tim Steele’s three wins in a row from 1996-98, will continue.

In Kern County, on the other hand, defending West champion Sean Hingorani has a chance to make it two wins in as many years, after denying 2022 winner Landen Lewis that very same opportunity last spring. Hingorani will be racing for Hattori Racing Enterprises instead of Venturini this time around, but 2014 ARCA national champion Mason Mitchell, the two-car Bill McAnally Racing effort of Jack Wood and Eric Johnson Jr., and Tyler Reif and Trevor Huddleston—Hingorani’s top title rivals last year—will be among those standing in his way.
